Good Work.
Over the years I've spent many hours encouraging people to take up useful occupations. Yet only today I read in the 'paper about "The Benefits\Poverty Trap". Apparently under minimum wage you get about £180 per week. But, if instead you stay at home and claim benefits, your "reward" is about £220 pw! Little wonder then that individuals choose the latter! With migrant workers filling the gap. Surely the Minimum Wage has to be HIGHER than the Dole! Dare I say, maybe some benefits need to be rationalised or even lowered? Or perhaps the Criteria for receiving such handouts should be radically overhauled. Jeremy Kyle suggested this on his recently broadcast three-day-stay in Preston. He interviewed a young working mother who wanted more hours being employed but was not allowed this. Then again the way he showed the plight of the homeless showed we still need SOME sort of Welfare State! Somehow Socialism and Capitalism need to be married up! Compassion and Work Ethic combined. Amen.
