Why Butland.

A Reader like you might wonder why "BUTLAND Times"? Well, when I was a teenager I wrote quite a few football and other stories about an imaginary tiny island in the Atlantic called "Butland"! I included myself as a resident character of course. In one episode we achieved a 0-0 draw with Canada at association football (world cup qualifier). Later I thought we might measure temperature in "Bicentigrade" or something similar - something more like Fahreneit without the minus figures (can't relate to Celsius). Actually many things we do are quite mad really, and on an island we could do things Sensibly! And whatever we liked!
Some of my sillier stories and "cartoons" of that time included an island super hero called "Buttman", but the less said about that the better! Some of my old school exercise books are Full of such writings. You have to watch the quiet ones. Those were happy times. One of my cartoons depicted a bus interior: two rows of seats filled by snogging couples. One poor chap sat on his own. A buxom, attractive conductress (resplendent with ticket machine) says, as they did in those days: "All supplied?" Priceless. Over and Out.
